TASMANIAN CLIMATE CHANGE STORIES
Sharing stories about changing climate from Tasmania, Australia and the world.
“The first time I travelled overseas I returned both inspired and surprised by stories from people far away. People who were already facing and seeing the impacts of climate change.
One story was from an ex fisherman in Norway. For thousands of years boats sailed to the village to catch cod in February and dry them on racks. Drying occurs because Norway has stable low cold temperatures between February and May protecting fish from insect and bacteria attack. However, in the last decade the fish now come a month later to spawn because the water temperatures have changed due to climate change so fishermen struggle to dry them in time.
The next time I travelled overseas Tasmanians were starting to see changes wrought by climate events such as fires, floods and fish disease. This time I recorded stories on my travels using an iPhone to bring back for other Tasmanians” - Ingrid Albion, Climate Action Hobart.
